Music of the Final Fantasy type
I have never really been what you might call a fanboy of anything in particular. Yes there are some things I will love and defend despite all logical outcomes likewise there are somethings that I will merely enjoy and mention nothing about: video game music. Growing up with the 8-bit glory of the original Nintendo left me with a certain nostalgia when it comes to the electronic beeps that represented music during the games I played as a child. I grew with the technology: the advent of the Super Nintendo and the Final Fantasy game series.
Lets be honest, if there is anything I like more it is a beautiful story. What better story than the one that you can take control of it (to a degree) and watch the drama unfold as you help the protagonists battle monsters and uncover secrets. Granted I never actually played Final Fantasy 1 or 2 (actually Japanese 4 and 5, the original three were never cool enough to make it to the states apparently) but when I played 3 (Japanese 6) I was shocked to the core at the story, the characters, and the music (I'm listening to it now). It is the sort of music that gives you a nostagic feeling and each song reminds you of particular parts of the story (and the real life events that were going on when I made it to that particular place in the story).
Final Fantasy 7 was somewhat different (because it actually was Japanese 7 as well) because of the sudden change in graphics (it was on the Playstation). It also introduceds a host of characters and a horrific set of plot twists, especially the odd love triangle that developed (albiet not very well developed) between the main character and two of the other protagonists. I can't really put my finger on the pulse of why I liked this game so much but it is augmented by the fact that Square-Enix (originally Square Soft that made the game) decided to make a movie of it. Likewise the movie isn't exactly out yet... However I am able to watch it at will and despite some of the more obvious problems (ie plot development) the movie blew my mind (it is called Final Fantasy: Advent Children, by the way). The creators actually incorporated the more favorable characters to be more prominent in the movie (like Vincent Valentine, who was a optional character from the game but makes a very impressive appearence in the game). The characters maintain the more poignant physical characteristics, to a certain degree I actually think they look better.
But I ramble on, I MUST get back to work. Somehow I was able to take a 5 hour nap and still feel as tired as when I layed down on the couch.
But the point of this post was, yes I am listening to Final Fantasy 6 through 8's music including the symphony renditions of certain songs (need I say: Veni Veni Venias, no me mori facias, Sephiroth!).
